Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This is likely one of those dials you see once and never again. The center features an incredible pink hue unlike any other pink dial we have encountered. From the center, the color radiates outward toward golden stars positioned between each numeral. The minute track is accented by bold markers every five minutes, enhancing the dial's legibility. At the center, the Elgin logo is exceptionally unique, rendered in an elegant font and design created specifically for this dial. Beneath this remarkable dial is Elgin's Grade 167, a movement produced for only a few short years between 1896 and 1897. Just 4,000 examples were ever manufactured, and this piece comes from the very first production run of only 1,000 movements completed in 1896. The Grade 167 features raised gold jewel settings and a sixteenth jewel at the center of the movement. Every component of the movement was carefully restored by hand. The screws and steel hardware were thermally blued using traditional methods to improve corrosion resistance while adding depth and visual contrast (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance screws were individually hand polished to restore their original golden tone. The original Louis XIV hands remain unrestored, providing exceptional contrast against the pink dial. At just 36 mm, this piece carries the proportions and wearability of a modern dress watch while preserving the character of vintage American watchmaking.
