Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin multichromatic dial is spectacular. The center features a soft pink tone that radiates outward, framed by a repeating pattern of golden half circles. Elegant Roman numerals surround the dial, while the outer minute track features intricate golden plumes every five minutes. The original Louis XV gold-colored hands add another layer of detail and complement the warm tones throughout the dial. Beneath this remarkable dial is Elgin’s Grade 263, a 17-jewel movement produced between 1901 and 1912. This example dates to 1901 and comes from the very first production run of the grade. The Grade 263 features raised gold jewel settings that provide beautiful contrast against the silver plates. Every component of the movement was carefully restored by hand. The screws and steel hardware were thermally blued using traditional methods to improve corrosion resistance while adding depth and visual contrast (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance screws were individually hand polished to restore their original golden tone. The original Louis XV hands remain unrestored, preserving their original finish and providing exceptional contrast against the pink dial.
Housed in our 36 mm conversion case, this timepiece is designed to preserve the elegance of its vintage aesthetic while offering the refined proportions of a modern dress watch. Crafted from surgical-grade 316L stainless steel, the case features both caseback and crown gaskets for enhanced durability and water resistance up to 50 meters (though we recommend removing the watch before water activities). At just 36 mm across with a slim profile, the case wears compact, elegant, and exceptionally comfortable on the wrist. Every piece is fully serviced, meticulously tested, and built for reliable everyday wear.
