Washington Watch Co. was a trade name used on pocket watch movements manufactured by the Illinois Watch Company for Montgomery Ward & Co. These watches were produced at the Illinois factory in Springfield, Illinois.

Crafted by the Illinois Watch Company in Springfield, Illinois, for Washington Watch Co., this 1907 timepiece is as rare as it is beautiful. These watches are exceptionally uncommon, and this is only the second Washington Watch Co. piece we have ever worked on. During restoration, the movement was completely disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled. The screws and hardware were thermally blued by hand over an open flame to achieve a deep, iridescent finish that enhances both contrast and durability (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, and balance components were hand-polished to revive their original luster. The original porcelain-enamel dial remains in excellent condition and features the classic railroad-style layout, but with Roman numerals in place of the more familiar Arabic numerals. The original plum-colored hands have also been preserved and remain in the same finish applied by Illinois at the time of manufacture. Their rich plum tone provides exceptional contrast against the bright white porcelain-enamel dial, completing a remarkably well-preserved example of early American watchmaking.

Housed in our 36 mm conversion case, this timepiece is designed to preserve the elegance of its vintage aesthetic while offering the refined proportions of a modern dress watch. Crafted from surgical-grade 316L stainless steel, the case features both caseback and crown gaskets for enhanced durability and water resistance up to 50 meters (though we recommend removing the watch before water activities). At just 36 mm across with a slim profile, the case wears compact, elegant, and exceptionally comfortable on the wrist. Every piece is fully serviced, meticulously tested, and built for reliable everyday wear.
