Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.

The porcelain enamel dial is the immediate standout here. Instead of the traditional bright white background, this example features a warm cream field that sets the stage for one of the most ornate layouts we have seen on an Elgin. Golden prisms circle the perimeter with small stars marking every five minute interval. Each black Arabic numeral is framed by refined golden motifs, and between every numeral sits a red or green fired jewel that adds depth and color. The seconds subdial is equally detailed with golden numerals and a crisp outer minute track. It is a stunning and uncommon dial design, unlike any other we have come across. Flip it over and the craftsmanship continues. This piece was completed in Elgin, Illinois in 1895 and houses the 15 jewel Grade 121 movement, produced for only a short window from 1892 to 1896. The movement features an exposed mainspring barrel, sharp damaskeening, and classic late nineteenth century finishing. Every component was carefully restored in our Little Rock, Arkansas workshop. Screws and steel hardware were thermally colored by hand for deep blue accents (read more here). Jewel settings, the gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually polished to bring back their original golden tone. The hands were restored by polishing them to a mirror finish and then heating each one over an alcohol lamp to achieve a rich iridescent blue. A rare dial, a short run movement, and full period finishing brought back to life.

The timepiece is housed in our surgical-grade 316L stainless steel conversion case with a 40 mm diameter—offering one of the best fits for any conversion available. The case includes both caseback and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The watch comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
