American Waltham Watch Co. was in operation from 1852-1957 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Waltham watches took place at their facility in Waltham, Massachusetts.
This Waltham timepiece was crafted in Waltham, Massachusetts, and completed in 1901. It houses Waltham’s 15-jewel Seaside grade, a movement produced from 1896 to 1912. The movement features 15 jewels, an exposed mainspring barrel, and stunning damaskeening throughout. Every movement component was carefully restored by hand in our workshop in Little Rock, Arkansas. The screws and steel hardware were thermally blued over an alcohol lamp using traditional watchmaking techniques to improve corrosion resistance while adding depth and contrast to the movement (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand polished to restore their original golden tone. The original heat-blued hands remain unrestored, preserving the finish applied by Waltham more than 125 years ago. The Waltham porcelain-enamel railroad dial remains in excellent condition and features highly legible black Arabic numerals surrounded by a crisp black minute track. The Waltham signature is rendered in an elegant cursive script, contrasting beautifully with the bold Arabic numerals and utilitarian railroad layout. Monochromatic dials like this are significantly rarer than their multichromatic counterparts and provide exceptional contrast and legibility. The combination of the black-and-white dial, original heat-blued hands, and richly finished Seaside movement gives this piece a distinctly early American aesthetic. It remains an incredible example of the precision, craftsmanship, and understated beauty that defined Waltham watchmaking at the turn of the twentieth century.
The timepiece is housed in our surgical-grade 316L stainless steel conversion case with a 40 mm diameter—offering one of the best fits for any conversion available. The case includes both caseback and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The watch comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
