Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was crafted in Elgin, Illinois, and completed in 1911. It houses Elgin’s 19-jewel Grade 193—a reliable and exceptionally rare movement produced between 1898 and 1914, with only 10,000 ever made. The movement features elegant damaskeening, 19 jewels, and a jeweled safety barrel. Components were carefully refinished with blue accents on the screws and hardware using precise, hand-applied thermal treatment—a traditional watchmaking technique that enhances both corrosion resistance and visual appeal (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand-polished to restore their original golden luster. The watch hands remain unrestored and retain their original golden color. The porcelain-enamel Elgin dial features golden numerals and gold dots around the perimeter for minute markers. The dial is in near-flawless condition, free of hairline cracks, and visually stunning.
The timepiece is housed in our new heritage bronze conversion case. Designed for those who appreciate the character that only age and wear can create, this case is made from solid bronze. Each case begins its journey with warm, golden tones. But the true beauty emerges with time. As you wear it, the metal naturally oxidizes, forming a rich patina. The lugs, coined-finish case, bezels, screws, and crown are all solid bronze, which means nearly every surface will age beautifully and develop a character all its own. No two cases will ever age the same.
The case is designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, while ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets for water resistance up to 50 meters; however, we recommend removing the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
