Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This Elgin timepiece was crafted in Elgin, Illinois, and completed in 1900. It houses Elgin’s proprietary 15-jewel Grade 191 movement—a rare caliber produced for just one year between 1899 and 1900, with only 10,000 units ever made. The movement features 15 jewels, a safety barrel, and stunning damaskeening. Every component has been meticulously refinished, with elegant blue accents on the screws and hardware achieved through precise open-flame thermal treatment using traditional watchmaking techniques. The watch hands were not restored and remain in their original golden condition. The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were each individually hand-polished to restore their original golden luster and sheen. The porcelain-enamel dial features an unbelievable red sunburst motif that is simply breathtaking. Free of chips, cracks, or hairlines, it stands out as one of the finest fancy dials we have ever come across.
The timepiece is encased in a 316L stainless steel wristwatch conversion case, designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
