Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.

This Elgin from 1934 features a porcelain-enamel dial with golden foil numerals and motifs fired directly into the surface. The result is a dial with remarkable depth and texture — the gold inlay sits slightly raised, and under magnification you can see where the metal fused into the enamel during firing. It is an intricate and delicate technique Elgin used sparingly, as the process was costly and prone to damage during production. Very few examples have survived with their fired inlay intact; this one is in excellent condition, void of chips and retaining its original fired detailing throughout. Inside is Elgin’s Grade 315 movement — a 15-jewel in-house caliber produced between 1904 and 1940. The movement is decorated with fine damaskeening and detailed ratchet and crown wheels. All screws and hardware were thermally colored by hand (read more here), and each brass jewel setting was polished to restore its original golden tone. The original gold-toned hands remain untouched, complementing the fired inlay of the dial perfectly.

The timepiece is encased in a 316L stainless steel wristwatch conversion case, designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure. Because of our dedication to preserving history, the original pocket watch case will be included as well.
