Hamilton Watch Co. was in operation from 1892-1969 and manufactured some of the highest end, most accurate watches ever produced. Manufacturing of Hamilton watches took place at their facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
This Hamilton timepiece was manufactured in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1923 and is powered by the Grade 916, a 17-jewel movement produced by Hamilton between 1923 and 1928. As one of the earliest examples manufactured, it represents the beginning of one of Hamilton’s most respected 12s movement families. Even more remarkable, the watch still retains its original heat-plum hands, which were thermally colored by Hamilton at the time of manufacture. The metal dial features a striking guilloché motif at its center, intricately carved into the surface. Clear Arabic numerals circle the perimeter, while the minute track is accented by bold circular markers at each five-minute interval. Combined with the original plum hands, the dial offers exceptional contrast and visual depth. Beneath the dial, the original Grade 916 movement has been fully restored and refinished. The screws and steel hardware were thermally blued by hand over an alcohol lamp, a traditional process that enhances corrosion resistance while creating vivid blue accents throughout the movement (read more here). The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were each individually hand polished to restore their original golden luster. The enamel-filled lettering on the movement had deteriorated with age, so it was carefully re-inked in a light blue enamel. This color was selected to complement both the silver tones of the movement and the blue thermal accents, creating a cohesive appearance that remains faithful to the original character of the piece while enhancing its visual presentation.
The 44 mm conversion case is designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, while ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets for water resistance up to 50 meters; however, we recommend removing the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
