Elgin National Watch Co. was in operation from 1864-1968 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Elgin watches took place at their facility in Elgin, Illinois.
This 1925 Elgin timepiece features a Masonic dial paired with our Heritage Bronze case, marking the first time we have ever offered this combination. The dial is near flawless with no visible patina. Each Masonic index is executed in gold foil, catching light in a way that alternates between bright yellow and deep shadow. The sub-seconds dial is textured with a circular pattern that adds depth and dimension. Inside is Elgin Grade 477, a reliable and relatively uncommon 17 jewel movement produced only between 1923 and 1927. The movement showcases finely decorated ratchet and crown wheels and bold striped damaskeening. All components were carefully refinished; screws and hardware received traditional hand-thermal coloring for vivid blue accents that enhance both corrosion resistance and visual character (read more here). Jewel settings, the gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand-polished to restore their warm golden luster. The hands were polished to a mirror finish to remove corrosion, then heated individually over an alcohol lamp to impart a rich iridescent blue hue. The contrast between the heat-blued hands and the gold Masonic elements is striking and adds a dynamic layer that shifts with changing light. A rare dial, a rare movement, and a bronze case that elevates both. A simply stunning combination.
The timepiece is housed in our new Heritage Bronze conversion case. Built for collectors who value the depth and character that only time can create, this case is machined from solid bronze composed of 93 percent copper, which gives it its warm golden tone from the start. As it is worn, the metal slowly oxidizes and develops a rich natural patina, creating a finish that becomes more personal day by day. The lugs, coined-edge case, bezel, screws, and crown are all solid bronze, so nearly every surface of the watch will evolve with wear. No two cases will ever age the same, which makes each piece uniquely your own.
The case is designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, while ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets for water resistance up to 50 meters; however, we recommend removing the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your next adventure.
