American Waltham Watch Co. was in operation from 1852-1957 and was an American pocket watch manufacturer. Manufacturing of Waltham watches took place at their facility in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The porcelain-enamel railroad dial on this 1898 Waltham features iconic American styling. Bold, curved Arabic numerals give the dial an elegant appearance while maintaining exceptional legibility. The railroad-style minute track is complemented by red markers at five-minute intervals, adding subtle contrast against the white enamel. Taken together, these details create a beautifully balanced dial that reflects the emphasis on clarity and legibility that defined American watchmaking during the railroad era. Beneath the dial, the timepiece is powered by Waltham’s Riverside grade, a 17-jewel in-house movement. In our workshop in Little Rock, Arkansas, every component was carefully restored and refinished. The jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights were individually hand polished to restore their original golden brilliance. Each screw and piece of steel hardware was thermally blued by hand over an alcohol lamp, a traditional process that enhances corrosion resistance while adding rich visual contrast (read more here). More than century after its manufacture, this Waltham remains a remarkable example of American watchmaking. The combination of its elegant railroad-style porcelain-enamel dial, beautifully finished movement, and traditional craftsmanship makes this piece particularly special.
