Illinois Watch Co. was in operation from 1869-1948 and produced some of the most renowned railroad-grade movements ever manufactured. Watches were produced in their factory in Springfield, Illinois.
This Illinois timepiece, crafted in Springfield, Illinois, was completed in 1916—during the World War I era. It features the Grade 405 movement—a 17-jewel, in-house caliber produced by Illinois from 1911 to 1929. The movement has been meticulously restored, with the plates, jewel settings, gear train, balance, and balance weights all hand-polished to return them to their original condition. Each component has been carefully refinished with elegant blue accents on the screws and hardware, achieved through precise, hand-applied thermal treatment using traditional watchmaking techniques (read more here). The watch hands remain unrestored, preserving their original heat-blued color. The metal Illinois dial features an incredible sunburst design that radiates from the center and shifts dynamically in different lighting. It’s finished in gilt, giving it a golden glow that changes with the light. The original heat-blued hands look striking against the warm metallic finish of the dial.
The timepiece is encased in a 316L stainless steel pocket watch conversion case, designed with adjustable lugs for easy winding and setting, ensuring a comfortable fit across various wrist sizes. The case includes front, back, and crown gaskets, providing water resistance up to 50 meters, though it is recommended to remove the watch before engaging in water activities. The timepiece comes fully serviced and ready for your future adventures.
